Genie Earns Works with Alexa Certification
Control Your Genie Garage Door Opener with Alexa Smart Home Skills
The Genie Company, the most recognized brand in garage door openers, has announced the integration with Alexa Smart Home Skills and has received Works with Alexa Certification for the Aladdin Connect garage opener. Works with Alexa is Amazon’s certification program that raises the bar on responsiveness, reliability, and functionality, ensuring customers have the best smart home experience. Given that the majority of single-family homeowners with garages use the garage as the primary access point for the home, a voice interface to open or close the door and check whether the door is open or closed simplifies the user experience for leaving and returning home.
With the new Aladdin Connect smart home skill for Amazon Alexa, customers can now user their voice to control Aladdin Connect garage opener by speaking commands directly to Alexa. For example, instead of saying “Alexa, ask Aladdin Connect to open my garage, customers may now just ask “Alexa, open my garage door”. To take advantage of the new smart home skills, existing customers will need to enable the new Aladdin Connect smart home skill, which may require the customers to re-link the Aladdin Connect account.
What is Alexa?: Alexa is the cloud-based voice service from Amazon. Alexa is the brain behind Amazon Echo and other Alexa built-in devices. Using Alexa is as simple as asking a question—just ask, and Alexa will respond instantly. Amazon Alexa lives in the cloud and is always getting smarter, delivering new capabilities to devices automatically. The more you use Alexa, the more Alexa adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and answer questions, play music, hear the news, get weather and traffic preferences, with new features continually being added.

I have enabled this, and it worked well for a day or so, but since then when I attempt to close it, the garage door does close, but after 60 seconds or so, Alexa pipes up and says she can’t communicate with the garage door. I don’t believe it is a WIFI issue on my end, as I don’t remember having these issues when I had to use the long form commands. I will say…this is SO much better and doesn’t make me feel like a complete idiot when i ask for the garage door to be opened or closed.
Will the same update be coming to Google Home? Where instead of saying “Hey Google, ask Aladdin Connect to open my garage, you could just ask “hey Google, open my garage door”.
doesn’t work. Tried disable/enable Alexa “skills & Games” “Alexa, open my garage door”. is there a trick, active or otherwise.
Love this!! Is there a way to setup a location based Routine in Alexa to automatically open my garage door using Aladdin connect as I arrive home?
Thanks and keep up the great work!
