How to Program Your Genie Garage Door Opener to Your Car – HomeLink® and Car2U®

How do I get the remote control built into my car to work with my Genie garage door opener?

HomeLink and Car2U are both in-car technologies that allow you to open your garage door from your car.  Usually, these 3 buttons are located on your visor or on the ceiling of your car above your center console.  The benefit of being able to open your garage door from your car is that you do not need a garage door opener remote. The HomeLink and Car2U systems are powered by your car’s electrical system so they do not need batteries, unlike a hand-held garage door opener remote. Genie garage door openers are compatible with both HomeLink and Car2U technologies.  Cars equipped with HomeLink have a single LED and usually feature an image of a house at the top middle button.  Cars featuring Car2U have 3 LED lights above each of the three buttons.

I have a 2022 Acura ILX with Homelink that I can’t link to my Genie H6000A. I had my last Acura linked but this one won’t connect. I followed all the directions in How to Program Your Genie Garage Door Opener to Your Car – HomeLink® and Car2U® several times with no results. I went to the owner’s manual and followed their directions. Again, no success. I don’t want to have to buy a new device and I don’t want to pay for a service call. It seems to me that there should be a relatively easy way to send the opener a wake up call, or provide solutions to users that were offered to the many other frustrated customers on this site. I would welcome any help from Genie because this situation is unacceptable.

I have a Genie H6000A opener that worked well with my last car (99 Acura TL) but I couldn’t get it to work with my ‘97 Nissan Pathfinder. I blamed the Pathfinder but now I’m not so sure.
I just got a 2022 Acura ILX and tried again and again to program it (and the Pathfinder) to the Genie, using your programming advice, but no success. What can I do?
