Emergency Release Cord Replacement Instructions 

Instructions for Current Model Replacement (Older model instructions are below) 

WARNING
BE SURE ELECTRICAL POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED FROM THE INPUT POWER LINES PRIOR TO REMOVING THE MOTOR COVER.


WARNING
ANY AND ALL REPAIRS MADE TO THIS UNIT MUST BE PERFORMED WITH THE DOOR DISCONNECTED FROM THE OPENER AND IN THE CLOSED POSITION.

1. Close the garage door.

2. Pull the current emergency release cord on the carriage to disengage opener to close the door if necessary. (If unable to lower door using the garage door opener, use extreme caution manually closing the door. Before pulling the red emergency release cord, make certain people and objects are clear of the garage door opening.)

3. Remove the currently installed damaged release cord if necessary.

4. Ensure the emergency release lever is in the down position.

5. Insert the loose end of the 37461U.S replacement cord through release lever and draw the cord up to the release assembly as shown in figure 1-2

6. Insert lower end of garage door opener emergency release cord through the release handle and tie a simple overhand knot. Shown in figure 3.

NOTE: The emergency release handle should be approximately 6 feet above the floor or high enough to clear any vehicle.

7. Test release lever with the new cord attached to ensure it does not bind and that it fully retracts.

8. Ensure release lever is in the up (locked) position and move the garage door until carriage locks into bullet.

Release Cord Replacement (OLDER MODELS)

1. Start with the garage door closed. If necessary, close the door.

2. Pull the currently installed emergency release cord on the carriage to disengage the garage door opener to close door if necessary. (If you are unable to lower door using the opener, use extreme caution when manually closing the door. Before pulling the emergency release cord, make certain all people and objects are clear of the door opening.)

3. Remove damaged release cord if necessary.

4. Cut loop from the 37461U.S new style release cord. FIGURE 1. (NOTE: Older style, short loop, does not require this step)

5. Pull the emergency release lever into the DOWN position. FIGURE 2.

6. Pull the new release cord so the crimp is fully seated into release lever. FIGURE 3.

7. Insert lower end of the new replacement release cord through release handle and tie a simple overhand knot. FIGURE 4.

NOTE: Release handle should be approximately 6 feet above floor or high enough to clear vehicle.

8. Test release lever with the new release cord installed to ensure it does not bind and fully retracts.

9. Ensure the emergency release lever is in the up (locked) position and move door until carriage locks into bullet.
