Replacing the 39342R.S Garage Door Opener Transformer  

These instructions are written assuming that you will have ample room around Opener to perform this repair. Some rare instances will require removal of the unit from it’s mounting hardware and repair made on a bench or floor. Refer to your Owners Manual or Installation Poster for proper assembly and carefully read and understand all warnings and cautions pertaining to your unit.

WARNING
BE SURE ELECTRICAL POWER HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED FROM THE OPENER PRIOR TO REMOVING THE MOTOR COVER.

WARNING
ANY AND ALL REPAIRS MADE TO THIS UNIT MUST BE PERFORMED WITH THE DOOR DISCONNECTED FROM THE OPENER AND IN THE CLOSED POSITION.

 

Close the Garage Door. (If you cannot lower the garage door using the garage door opener, use extreme caution when manually closing the door. Before pulling the emergency release cord, make certain people and objects are clear of the door opening.) Pull emergency release cord on the carriage to disengage opener.


Unplug the garage door opener power cord from power receptacle. or shut down breaker.

Remove Battery Backup (BBU) from powerhead, if equipped: FIG. 1.
• Unplug harness from top of powerhead.

Remove lens cover by pressing top tabs down and slide lens cover out. Remove light bulbs.

Remove 3 screws securing cover to chassis. FIG.2.

Remove wall control and Safe-T-Beam® wires from terminal block located on the front of powerhead. FIG. 2.
• Using a small common screwdriver, press in on the orange tabs while gently pulling wires from the block. Mark the wires to help facilitate replacement. Remove 5/16" screws securing the cover to the chassis FIG.4.

Note: Pull Antenna out from the cover carefully.

Unplug these harnesses listed below from the control board. FIG 5.

Note: the single bulb units should not require the removal of the circuit board. 

  • Light Harness
  • Motor Wires (2)
  • Encoder Harness
  • AC In Harness
  • Transformer Primary Harness
  • Transformer Secondary Harness
  • BBU Harness if equipped

Remove the control board mounting screws, slide board forward to remove the mounting clips. FIG 6.

Remove two 5/16" transformer screws, and then remove the transformer FIG.8.

Install the replacement 39342R.S transformer. 

Re-install the control board and all the harnesses. 

Note: Be certain to re-install all the harnesses in the correct position. Make sure to install locking tabs facing each other. FIG 7.

Install the powerhead to the chassis. Feed the antenna wire through the hole in the cover. 

Re-Install the wall console and safe-t-beam wires. 

Re-Install the light bulbs and lens cover. 

If equipped, connect the battery backup to the garage door opener again. (plug the harness into the top of the power head. )
